Supplements with multiple benefits a great investment in your health
Vitamin D
(Menopause Management) Studies point to a reduction in osteoporosis, fractures, and falls, as well as a decrease in depression, autoimmune diseases and overall body aches.
(The New York Times) Research has shown that vitamin D may reduce the risk for cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. The American Academy of Pediatrics has now doubled the recommendation for vitamin D from 200 IU to 400 IU.
Adult dosage depends on sun exposure, age, and other factors, but almost certainly more than the 400 IU that were commonly thought ideal, and may be much more than 800 IU daily for many. Your practitioner may want to check your vitamin D 25 (HO) blood levels.
Omega 3
Most of you will already be aware of many of the benefits of Omega 3s: healthier heart, eyes, kidneys, colon, and improvements in asthma, osteoporosis, arthritis, depression, and ADHD.
Did you know that a child’s IQ could be 6 points higher if the mother received optimum amounts of DHA in pregnancy and while breastfeeding? Begin supplementing at least 6 months prior to conception, but ideally, take it every day for your own health.
